Family Session FAQs
-
During a typical session I try to capture many different types of expressions, interactions, and groupings. Some photos will be closeups, some will be portraits, and some will be environmental (including your surroundings). I want to capture as many details of your family during our time together as I can. I will try to get a posed group shot, but my specialty lies in capturing the interactions between you and your family. Having everyone smile and say ‘cheese’ isn’t my thing. I prefer if no ‘coaching’ is done prior to our session. When your kids are relaxed and doing what they do, I’m able to capture more of their essence than when they plaster on the big, fake grin.

Yes, I have multiple natural and urban locations you can choose from that will produce optimal light and visual interest in the evenings. If you want to do a session in your home or in a special location outside of the city I'm more then happy to do so. If there is travel associated with your location (typically more than 20 miles outside of Fort Collins) a travel fee may apply.

The quick and easy answer is whatever everyone feels comfortable in! Once you have booked your appointment and paid your session fee, I will send you a brochure that has the do’s and don’ts of dressing for your session. If you are still unsure after reading this feel free to send me pictures of what you are planning to wear, and I will be happy to give you feedback.

Yes, I love when my clients have different looks. However, this isn't necessary in family sessions. The most important ingredient in a family session is happiness. If changing clothes is going to upset anyone (especially young children, reluctant older children, or dads) it might be best to keep it simple. If you think all family members are on board and enthusiastic with outfit changes then by all means, go ahead!
Remember, this could potentially cut into your session time and the overall number of photos taken. If you'd like extra time added to your session it will be charged at a rate of $100/hr.

An important part of your session is authenticity and capturing a moment in time of your family. If your child or children are going to be happier or more comfortable wearing something special or bringing their favorite stuffy then let them. As Elsa would say, "let it go, let it go." :)

Your family session includes up to six people and is 1-1.5 hrs. long. If you will be going over this amount of people (six) an additional $50/person fee will be charged to your session. If you'd like additional time, as well, to accommodate multiple pairings of people, a fee of $100/hr. will be charged.

Luckily, in Colorado we don’t often have inclement weather. Unless it is downpouring, I see no need to reschedule our appointment. There are many wonderful ways to photograph successfully in different types of conditions whether it be sunny or overcast. A little snow shower or rain can add a dreamy, magical atmosphere. We might even be lucky enough to get a rainbow! I try to keep up to date with the weather before a session so I can notify you if any changes need to occur, but this is typically never the case.

Time. The most important ingredient in our lives today seems to be time; how we are going to use it, and how we don’t seem to have enough of it. By providing select fine art prints and framed photos in my collections, I ensure that you leave my sessions with something to remember them by. These will be heirlooms passed down, memories relived of years flown by in the blink of an eye. The quality fine art prints and frames that you will receive will last over time and I can ensure that you get prints that reflect accurate colors by using a professional print lab approved and used by me personally.

Yes, when you go to order for your selected collection, I will have a la carte items available at additional cost. If you don't see something you'd like on there, please, let me know and I will try to accommodate your request.
the family session process…
A $250 family session fee will be requested at the time of your booking. Family sessions are for up to six people ($50 will be charged per person for additional people). I will then send you a short questionnaire to start getting to know you and your family's desires. There are many wonderful locations around town that have beautiful light and unique vibes. Once we have decided whether you want natural, urban, or home surroundings I will choose a location that will let you and your personality shine in the best light (this is typically 1-1.5 hours before sunset). Don't worry if you are confused about what to wear to your session. I will also be sending you guidance in this area. We will spend 1-1.5 hrs at this location getting portraits and environmental shots of you and your family interacting authentically. Within one week of our session you will have the opportunity to view the photos in your own private online proofing gallery. After you have chosen the photos and the collection you'd like to purchase, the selected photos will be hand edited and uploaded to your final gallery within two weeks. At this time you will be able to select which photos to use to fulfill your print/framing collections and add-on requests.
