The Bighorns: Playtime in the Woods Bambi Style, and More Fog-Part II
Cruising around looking for wildlife in the early morning hours is one of my favorite pastimes. You don’t really need to be looking for anything in particular because if you don’t see what you want, you will surely come across something else equally exciting. This morning I was on my way back to the lodge after not seeing a heck of a whole lot when I came across a mother deer and two twins. We decided to stop for a bit and see what would happen. Typically, a family of deer will run deep into the woods. This time the mother did, however, the two babies started playing together, darting into the woods and towards their mother and then running back out. It was a sight to see! These are not the best photos but the memories they bring are priceless.
Foggy mornings add drama to the landscape. As the clouds were rolling by, I had to capture the scene. Usually when we come to the Bighorns it’s sunny and beautiful. This was a chance to capture another side of the mountains.
It’s not often I want to take a selfie but I had just gotten this Grand Teton National Park Rumpl puffy blanket and wanted to showcase it on a camping trip. The weather proved perfect for the photo op at Sibley Lake. If only a moose had come out of the trees down to the water!
The sun finally started to peek out later in the morning creating a soft, dreamlike quality to the landscape.
I was able to see a couple of moose hanging around. None of the big guys but I’m not picky.
This moose was more challenging to spot and capture but I’m amazed by how well these new cameras (Sony A7V) can pick out the details that you want.
I love the fact that all the animals in the Bighorns seem to coexist. This deer didn’t give the sandhill crane a second thought nor did the crane to the deer. And the flowers, oh my!
Stay tuned for The Bighorns: Part III. There will be lots of foggy elk, some moose, and even another bouncing Bambi!
